Executive Policy

Operations of the Management Undergraduate Society shall be governed by those sitting on Executive Council. While the Executive Policy outlines the various responsibilities of each executive, other duties may arise to ensure the successful operation of the Management Undergraduate Society.

  1. Executives of the Management Undergraduate Society
    1. In accordance with Article XI, section D (ii) of the MUS Constitution, the following executives shall be hired by the Board of Directors:
      1. Vice President of Academic Affairs
      2. Vice President of Financial Affairs
      3. Vice President of Engagement
      4. Vice President of Internal Affairs
      5. Vice President of External Affairs
      6. Vice President of Communications
    2. No other person, other than the President, shall be considered to be a part of Executive Council beyond those listed in Article 1, section a of the Executive Policy
    3. All executives shall be hired no later than February 15th  the prior academic year of their term, unless otherwise not possible
  2. Common Responsibilities of All Executives
    1. The following shall be common responsibilities of all executives of the Management Undergraduate Society:
      1. Uphold the MUS Mission Statement, the MUS Constitution, and all official policies of the Management Undergraduate Society
      2. Oversee and support Chairs, Co-Chairs and committee members included in each executive’s respective portfolio as outlined in the Portfolio Policy
      3. Ensure strong continuity during turnover of those members of the committees in each executive’s portfolio and to the executive’s successor
      4. Announce and hold office hours twice per week, totaling no less than 3
      5. Maintain a strong and positive relationship with the MUS Board of Directors
      6. Do other such things to ensure the successful operation of the Management Undergraduate Society
    2. As the MUS President is the Chair of the Executive Council and considered an executive of the Management Undergraduate Society, the MUS President shall abide by the procedures outlined in Article 2, section a of the Executive Policy
  3. Vice President of Academic Affairs
    1. The following shall be the responsibilities of the Vice President of Academic Affairs
      1. Liaise with the Desautels Bachelor of Commerce Office and Dean’s Office on all academic affairs
      2. Represent the MUS and the student body on the Desautels Undergraduate Program Committee, Academic Committee and Faculty Council
      3. Build strong rapport between the MUS and the Desautels Career Services
      4. Represent the unified student voice on all academic issues and concerns
      5. Promote a strong, positive academic environment
  4. Vice President of Financial Affairs
    1. The following shall be the responsibilities of the Vice President Financial Affairs
      1. Act as Treasurer of the Management Undergraduate Society
      2. Enforce Article XIX of the MUS Constitution and all Articles of the Reimbursement, Annual Report, and Financial Policies
      3. Maintain fiscal responsibility and accountability of the Management Undergraduate Society on all matters including, but not limited to:
        1. Financial strategy
        2. Financial controls
        3. Systems of reimbursement
        4. New ventures of the Management Undergraduate Society
        5. Sponsorship
        6. Reporting
        7. Auditing
        8. Taxation, where applicable
      4. Any financial allocation as directed by the MUS Board of Directors or Executive Council
      5. Liaise with the SSMU on all financial matters, including the processing of any financial instruments
      6. Assist the Chairs, Co-Chairs and their committee members on all budgeting matters including, but not limited to:
        1. Pricing
        2. Expense forecasting and research
        3. Contract negotiations
        4. Resource acquirement
      7. Publish a “Statement of Financial Position” once per academic term no later than the first day of the exam period as defined by the MUS Constitution
  5. Vice President of Engagement
    1. The following shall be the responsibilities of the Vice President of Engagement:
      1. Collaborate with various stakeholders for annual orientations at McGill
      2. Promote involvement and volunteerism within and beyond the Management Undergraduate Society
      3. Encourage social interaction between students and/or university staff and faculty
      4. Engage international and exchange students at the Desautels Faculty of Management
  6. Vice President of Internal Affairs
    1. The following shall be the responsibilities  of the Vice President of Internal Affairs:
      1. Liaise with the Desautels Faculty of Management Building Administration
      2. Liaise with the MUS Clubs on all matters
      3. Process all room booking requests, equipment requests, and SSMU Building Room Requests from MUS Recognized Clubs, Activities or Events
      4. Be responsible for all MUS owned equipment and property, including upkeep
      5. Sit on the 21st Century Fund Committee
      6. Be responsible for sustainability initiatives throughout MUS Activities
      7. Be responsible for MUS elections management
  7. Vice President of External Affairs
    1. The following shall be the responsibilities of the Vice President of External Affairs:
      1. Act as the official liaison with other Canadian universities and commerce societies
      2. Collaborate with the committee of any considerably large event beyond the control of the Management Undergraduate Society
      3. Be responsible for the annual feedback and evaluation process of all sponsorship-generating events of the Management Undergraduate Society
      4. Represent the Management Undergraduate Society and engage with the business community and alumni of the Desautels Faculty of Management
  8. Vice President of Communications
    1. The following shall be the responsibilities of the Vice President of Communications
      1. Enforce the MUS Branding and Communications Policy
      2. Oversee and manage all marketing and communications of the Management Undergraduate Society, including but not limited to:
        1. Advertising (print, email, or otherwise)
        2. Public relations
        3. Market research
        4. Sales
        5. Brand management
        6. Marketing strategy
      3. Maintain and update all MUS digital media, including but not limited to:
        1. MUS website
        2. MUS email announcement
        3. MUS calendar of events
      4. Be responsible for communication between the MUS Councils, MUS Board of Directors, and the MUS General Membership
      5. Act as a marketing consultant for the members of the Chairs, Co-Chairs and their committee member
