Monthly External Update

Hello lovely Bronfmanites!

I hope everyone enjoyed Carnival, props to my fellow exec Marie Louise and the co-chairs for a great event! Quick update on what's hot right now in the External portfolio:

1) JDC 2012 was beyond great. Our delegation came back with 7 podiums, finished 3rd in Academics and paid off for all the efforts the competition committee has been putting in JDC since this summer! This continues our good performance in competitions this year, as our HR Sympo finished 4th overall and brought back 2 podiums earlier this year.

2) Financial Open is coming up in 2 weeks! McGill is readier then ever, let's wish our delegation the best of luck, some of our brightest Accounting & Finance students will be representing Desautels at the 6th edition of Financial Open held at JMSB.

3) Another event under external portfolio has succesfuly passed this weekend, the Desautels Business Conference on Sustainability! Co-chairs Anne & Dylan and their entire committee did an amazing job this year, especially by bringing in Craig Kielburger as a keynote speaker.

4) The upcoming weeks are pretty hectic for me: Thursday I will be leaving on the ski trip organized by the MUS Accounting Society (external love towards our clubs!) and then I will be heading directly to REFAEC, held in Trois Rivieres this weekend. We will finally find out the sports that will be played at Happening Marketing 2012, held at JMSB in March so I'll keep you posted on that!

And don't forget, Nomination period has begun, this is your time to get involved with the MUS, visit http://musonline.com/resources/elections for more info! If you have any questions concerning the VP External position, come by our new office on the 2nd floor during my office hours and I will happily answer all your questions!

HR Sympo official results

Hello lovely people, I truly hope that you're surviving this finals & cold season!

A short external update: we received the official rankings for Human Resources Symposium, a competition held end November and guess what: McGill finished 4th overall! This is one of the best results we've ever achieved at HR Sympo and this proves that the introduction of a Competition Committee and different small initiatives we've been implementing this year to improve our competitiveness are bringing in results! With JDC (Commerce Games), Financial Open and Happening Marketing coming up next semester, we're confident that our delegations have the potential & talent needed to excel at those competitions. Congrats to the whole HR Sympo delegation once again!

On that note, I wish you the best of luck on your exams and don't forget to come by the basement for MUS Exam time Pick-me ups: free coffee, hot chocolate & timbits!

Back from NBSC & HR Sympo!

Before we dive into the finals & lovely marketing presentations, here's your external update of the week!

So this past weekend the MUS had 3 events going on: CASCO which was a huge success, HR Symposium (McGill brought back home two trophies!) and NBSC, an annual business school conference in Winnipeg.
Myself, VP Comm Rebecca Black and our President Dave Fortin attended the National Business School Conference that's held every year in Winnipeg. NBSC is a great learning experience for executives from business schools around Canada to get together and discuss issues & come up with new initiatives. The conference itself is separated into different breakout sessions focused on student engagement, resolution of conflicts and long terms strategy & vision for student councils. The breakout sessions were very interactive & efficient in terms of exchanging information and it definitely helped us to come up with some solutions & further progress in new things we've implemented this year such as Corporate Relations system and the Competition Committee. We all came back with new ideas, for me it was concerning Corporate Relations, our Desautels Business Conference on Sustainability and competitions. VP Comm had a great feedback on our Branding Policies and also learned some new amazing ideas for the First Year Street team, while our President was mainly focused on motivating non-involved students and how could the MUS bring additional service to the entire student body.

HR SYMPO: Our first podium of the year! Desautels delegation was competing at HR Sympo, a case competition held at the Telfer School of Management in Ottawa. It's the first one of the year and our students got a 3rd place in HR Case, the biggest case of the competition. Team composed of Alexis Radojcic, Adam Dyrda & Patricia Lohmus will also be representing Desautels at JDC, congrats and good luck guys! Olivier Bouchard who was part of our sports team got the MVP Award, so congratulation to the entire delegation and our Competition Committee!

Coming up: Mini Jeux this weekend, which is an excellent opportunity for our sports & social JDC teams to practice against other schools.

On this, I wish all of you good luck and fun sleepless nights at the library

External monthly update

Hello lovely Bronfmanites!

Hope midterms and team projects (thank god for peer evaluations!) are treating you well enough. Just some quick updates for you from the past few weeks:

1) HR Sympo is finally here! Our delegation will be leaving Friday morning for the 2 day competition and will be competing in one sports challenge and 4 academic cases. We wish them the best of luck, the delegation this year is very strong and I have no doubt that they'll be able to represent our university very proudly. The coordinator of the delegation, Dayna Murray and the entire Competition Committee have been working very hard for the past months to bring the team the best experience possible, so best of luck!

2) We now have officially completed the selection of all 4 academic delegations that will represent Desautels at the 4 REFAEC competitions. For an updated list, scroll through the Competitions section! This year's teams for HM, Financial Open and HR Sympo were selected with a strong input of our DMCC VP Academic, Sumira Jayabalan and we have very high hopes for all our delegations.

2) Myself, our VP Comm Rebecca Black and our president Dave Fortin, will be attending the National Business Schools Conference which will be held over the course of the weekend in Winnipeg. Conferences like NBSC are very useful because they help us discuss and brainstorm more ideas & new initiatives with school across Canada, on topics such as student engagement, corporate relations, competitions and many others.

For now, I need to get back to my 100 assignments and I wish you all a great week!
